Mick Suverkrubbe, Operating Partner

Mick Suverkrubbe’s strong work ethic and passion for food stems from his humble beginnings working on his family’s multigenerational farms in the Midwest. Mick is a descendant of three generations of Nebraska farmers, so he spent much of his childhood raising dairy cattle, beef cattle and horses, as well as an extensive garden of fresh vegetables. He lived a childhood where farm-to-table cooking was the norm and not the exception.

Mick is a seasoned restaurateur who has worked in the hospitality industry for over 25 years. He has opened and operated 12 restaurants and bars across the country, including in Phoenix, Los Angeles, Boston, and most recently in San Francisco. Mick moved to San Francisco in 2000, and has opened and operated several bars and restaurants in The City including The Cosmopolitan, Cozmo’s Corner Grill, CIRCA, Social Club, and The Parlor Bar.

Since arriving in San Francisco, Mick has been heavily involved with local community affairs, especially in the Marina District, where he served as President of the Marina Merchants Association from 2003-2008. He has also served on the board of Directors of the Fisherman’s Wharf Merchant Association and the Golden Gate Restaurant Association for many years.

Mick started out his career in hospitality by interning with the renowned restaurant organization, The Mastro Group, while attending college at Arizona State University. After graduating, Mick was hired on at The Mastro Group to develop a seven-unit chain of Maloney’s Taverns across the country, eventually becoming a partner in Los Angeles at the age of 25. In addition to owning several restaurants, bars and nightclubs, Mick has also consulted on more than a dozen additional restaurant concepts in major metropolitan cities across the United States.

With Contrada, Mick is excited to return to the bustling Marina neighborhood with a concept that is simultaneously delicious, fun and convivial. “l look forward to Contrada SF becoming a favorite neighborhood restaurant and wine bar for locals,” Mick said. “From the impressive authentic Italian cuisine and wine, to the lively bar, spacious back deck and sunny wine garden, I think Contrada SF is going to be a great addition to the neighborhood.”
